When you’re making the most delicious margarita that has ever been made one of three things is guaranteed to happen.
1. You will spend too much money.
2. By the time you’re done with your “recipe” you may have been tipsy for weeks on end.
3. Everything will go perfect and your glass will magically fill itself with wonderfully portioned ingredients.
Unluckily for my husband, it turns out I am very easily persuaded when it comes to quite small, expensive bottles of orange liquor. So with that being said, any type of triple sec will do fine (thank me later, husband’s). Oh, and also I’m not good at writing down my recipes so I guess I got the double whammy there (nervous tipsy laugh…).
For this recipe I paired two drinks that are magnificent on their own and even better when married together. A margarita and mimosa. A grapefruit mimosa is always a favorite of mine. The bitter tang, a hint of sweet and that kiss of champagne is always welcome at any meal. Plus the tequila, Grand Marnier and your glass rimmed with a spicy, Mexican Chile pepper – aka all good things.
I made my own simple syrup and infused it with the zest of a lime but any simple syrup is perfectly acceptable. We hold no qualms when it comes to delicious sugar.
The Basic Recipe :
This recipe can be modified as needed to make your very own very tasty, more or less boozy, drink that will knock your socks off.
3 oz Grapefruit Juice
2 oz Lime Juice
1/2 – 1 oz Simple Syrup
1 oz Tequila Blanco
1 oz Grand Marnier/Triple Sec
~ 1/2 oz Champagne for Grand Finish
Tajín Clasíco Seasoning for Glass Rim
– Combine first 3 ingredients and shake well with ice. Adjust sweetness to taste, add Tequila and Grand Marnier and shake the bejeesus out of it. Wet your glass rim with lime juice and coat with Tajín Clasísco. Fill glass with ice, pour drink, leaving 1/8 empty. Top off with champagne.
Also to pay homage to that stupidly priced cognac and orange liquor – I set this beauty up in a cognac glass but let’s be honest, you could drink this out out of a Dixie cup and it would be delicious.
